Dries Van Noten's Fall 2012 collection

It was mesmerising, witnessing Dries Van Noten’s amazing and poetic 2012 fall collection in the hall of the Hotel De Ville in Paris.

Upon entering the room, the models moved serenely underneath the dripping, glass chandeliers to a sparse, emotive track of Bon Iver’s “woods” (magic already).

With the words of the song—"Slow down the time" it seemed we were being encouraged to do just that: slow down, pay attention to history and art, and absorb the calm and magnificence before us.

It was inexplicably beautiful (just like the clothes). At one point the hot and packed hall was so quiet the only noise to be heard was the sound of the models bone, wood and tortoiseshell-heeled steps on the heavy wooden floor. I had fallen in love, again.

It's hard to pick a favourite, but there's one look of outwear that I just can't ignore...

I like to call it:‘The Cookie Monster’ (and I mean that as a good thing!) as Van Noten’s bright turquoise shock of shaggy fur reminds us that this fur coat is a voluminous must-have piece. Not only does it add texture to a look but it also creates a sort of delicate strength too.
